One of my New Year resolutions for 2018 was to read more books than last year. I reckon I only truly read around 6 books in total which is horrendous for me! I did have an awful 2017 so I guess you can excuse me. It's a new year (yes, I know it's February!) and a fresh start to work on my reading. There are so many new books coming out this year and, after scanning Waterstones, I've picked out 7 books that I need to buy in 2018!
I love myself some theatre which is good since I'm an actress and have done a theatre degree. That's why I need to own this book when it comes out! I haven't read any of Maggie's books, but I love the sound of this. The character Hope wants to work backstage and it makes me so happy to see someone writing about the tech side of the theatre instead of the usual 'main character wants to be a STAR'. If Hope is going to be a 'techie', then I hope we get to read about the lengthy tech runs that they have to go through. OH, THE TECH RUNS! *yawn* (Release: 26th June)
I don't normally want to buy a sequel to a series I've yet to read; however, this is no ordinary sequel! This is the second book to the best-selling YA novel 'Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda' (or Love, Simon if you're wanting to see the film release in March). The trailer really intrigued me and pushed me to treat myself to the first book recently. MERLIN'S BEARD, did I love that first book! It was funny, serious and that crazy rollercoaster you can only expect from a YA novel. It's safe to say that I'm planning to grab the next book when I get paid just so I can figure out Leah! (Release: 3rd May)
From the moment I read the synopsis about Gracie and Bea, I was hooked! It looks like the kind of YA novel I can get really get my teeth into. Magic? Check! Grief? Check! A quirky family? Check! My mind is forever blurring reality and my imagination together. Plus lists! Your girl loves herself some list-writing. There's no cover shown on the Waterstones website just yet so I'm looking forward to see what the publisher creates for it! (Release: 29th March)
I wish there were more books out there with the main character having a disability so it made my reader heart sing when I heard about this. Rosa has a nerve disease and is slowly dying when she is offered a brain transplant. I could do with one of those! This novel really made me think of Doctor Who yet doesn't seem as freaky for some reason. That could easily change when I eventually read the book. *grabs cushion to hide behind* (Release: 8th March)
The title was what initially grabbed me and then, when I saw that the character Petula suffers from anxiety and paranoia, I had to read the rest of the synopsis. A book with mental health! Yep, sounds like something I'll relate to. My own mental health is full of depression and anxiety so I reckon that Petula and I would get on and have long rants about the world. It'll be fun to see if this book kicks start my optimism! (Release: 1st March)
Loving the flocks of books being published lately tackling the more hidden problems that still have a stigma attached to them. How could I not want to read a book with a character called Daisy (best name out there, y'know!) who is a young carer. Yep, I am now beginning to think that Evie must have secretly been stalking my life. Haha! Obviously this Daisy has a different experience to my own but I think I'll connect more with the boy Marty. (Release: 1st March)
If you haven't read any of Carrie's books, then you are seriously missing out! She's like an utter triple threat! She's an award-winning actress, a gifted singer and an incredible author. I was already a subscriber of Carrie's long before she started writing her books. I think I even was subscribed just before she joined Les Mis so now I feel old! I wondered whether she would write about life in the theatre since it's obviously been a massive part of her life and here we are! July really can't come quick enough! (Release: 12th July)
I was really nervous to post my first proper blog post again so hopefully I didn't bore you to death and force you to leave after the very first sentence.
What books can't you wait to read this year?
Daisy xoxo
I am so excited for when the curtain falls by Carrie Hope Fletcher, I absolutely loved her first two books. I just wish it was being released sooner! I usually don't think about new releases but there are actually so many that I am excited for this year. Some I am excited for are goodbye perfect by Sara Barnard, sunflowers in February by Phyllida Shrimpton, which are both actually released tomorrow I think, and how do you like me now by Holly Bourne.
